Obesity

WHO 1995 states that -
  • approx 1.6billion people globally are obese age 15+ were overweight
  •  at least 400 million adults are obese .
  • WHO also further projects that by 2015 approx 2.3 billion adults will be overweight and over 700billion people will be obese
Cardiovascular disease is one of the biggest killers in the world It kills 17 millions people a year. In Ireland almost 10,000 people die each year. CVD accounts for 36% of all deaths in Ireland each year. Obesity is a large contributing factor to obesity.Risks to heart disease rise as BMI rises.Ireland as a nation is becoming more of an obese nation as the years progress. Obesity alone is one disease but it also leads onto further complications such as diabetes, osteophorosis and some cancers.
In order to help tackle this problem the country needs to get educated about the consequences of their eatind habits. The first step is
  • a healthy diet
  • an energy balance
  • lower the intake of saturated fats
  • increase fruit and veg consumption
  • Increse physical activity levels to 30 minutes a day on most days of the week
This problem can be solved ,the problem is people just dont know the risks. How can this be highed to the people of Ireland before its too late?
